Negligence of Primary education Contd.

According to 2001 census report the literacy rate was only 65%.That means every third person in the country is illiterate.Among the Females the literacy rate is 50% ,that means every second women in the country is illiterate they are unable to write their names. The illiterate population in India is equivalent to the total Population of USA.

What about our neighbors in Asia. SouthKorea 98%, Japan 95%, Vietnam 93% ,
SriLanka 91% ,Indonesia 87%,China 85%.Only Pakistan with 43% and Afghanistan 36%
are behind us.

There is wide disparity between states - Bihar has 38.5% literacy (comparable to Afghanistan), while Kerala has 90% literacy. States like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal still have several districts where female literacy is less than 30 %.

Literacy rate among Schedules caste and schedules tribes – one of the poorest sections of Indian society is 42% and 35%.

Coming to infrastructure as many as 89% did not have toilets and 59% did not have drinking water. As for teaching aids, 26% did not have blackboards, 52% of the schools lacked playgrounds,
59% had no access to maps and charts, 67% lacked any kind of teaching kits, 75% had no toys for the small children, and 77% of the schools had no libraries. Absenteeism is rampant among teachers.

This clearly shows the poor Management of the Educational system. What this system produced in the past 60 years of its existence is that we have few richest persons like Tata's, Birla's Ambani's & Mittals and millions of poorest people in the World. The future seems bleak as we have to house millions of illiterates for few decades to come.Is this acceptable? Is this good for the Nation?where we have failed? An introspection is the need of the hour for Administrators and Rulers.

Negligence of Primary Education

The root cause of many evils in the Indian society is the negligence of Primary Education.
Even After 60 years of independence our rulers are not giving top priority to Universal
Compulsory Primary Education to the people born in this country. What is the reason for this?
We are unable to achieve 100% literacy even though Spending hundreds of crores of rupees on
Adult Education Program mes.

A critical systematic study of the problem is the need of the hour.
